 | | HNN - Ministry of the Interior announcement!
|
| The familiar theme of the Hapan News Network is heard and the logo appears on screen before being replaced by the image of Anacia Chalcedon in front of the picturesque Castle of Per’Aghtra.
“Good evening, citizens of the glorious Consortium. Tonight’s top stories in the Hapes Cluster: Royal Council discusses amendments to the Constitution, Hapes Prime planetary shield network undergoing renovations and finally, import of Lorellon fashion to Gormoth skyrockets as new trend catches on. But first we go live to Chume’Dan for the latest scoop on changes within the Hapan hierarchy!”
The image shifts, showing the grand, domed structure that is Lorell Hall, then moves in through the enormous and elaborately decorated gate, up the grand stairwell and to the right, in to the Council of Archons. Various officials of the Hapes Consortium are present, including all the Archons, the Prime Minister and the King himself. An assortment of civil servants and press corps members are present in the audience. An aide announces the Lord of Arxian and Minister Alexander Tylger stands up and walks to the speaker stand. Dressed in a formal Royal Court uniform, the noble gives a polite bow to the King before addressing the crowd.
“Your Majesty, Your Excellencies, Your Honours, ladies and gentlemen… I would like to thank for all for attending this afternoon. The recent reinstatement of the Ministry of the Interior after a year in stasis has led to an extraordinary amount of paperwork for me and my staff to handle. We have found that many aspects of the Hapes Consortium’s laws and regulations are derelict and in immediate need of updating. This is a task that my ministry is currently undertaking, including regular discussions with the Royal Council in order to modernise our judicial system, as well as the government’s routines and modus operandi. Announcements will be made when these changes come in to effect and we shall keep you apprised on what that entails for the average citizen of the Consortium.
On to the point of this conference. In order for me to appropriately devote my full attention to my new tasks within Lorell Hall, I have decided to step down as Archon of the Rim Worlds. It has been an honour to serve all the inhabitants of this culturally rich and diverse region over the last three years. I would like to thank all the nobles of the Rim Worlds, as well as local Royal Hapan Armed Forces officials and Endara Mining Corporation representatives, for their exemplary co-operation with the office of the Archon.
As part of the new shift in the government, authority over the Council of Archons – previously known as the Curia – will transfer back to the Ministry of the Interior. We shall administrate planetary oversight and governance of all of the Hapes Cluster’s worlds that are not directly administrated by the Tarii or national corporations and oversee and advise on those that are.
I can say right now that I am very pleased with the current archons: Vetra Kurov and Kell Archis. To complete the Council of Archons, we had to choose carefully to find someone appropriately suited for the role of regional governor. The Royal Council wanted someone who could be diplomatic, but still hands on, should the need arise. The man we selected is a rising star in the hierarchy of the Hapes Consortium and a natural choice for the job. Congratulations to Baldamar Dronos, the new Archon of the Rim Worlds.”
Lord Tylger applauds along with the crowd and moves to the side as the Cathar civil servant approaches the podium and bows to the assembled dignitaries before taking the stand.
“Your Majesty, Your Excellencies, Your Honours. Thank you all so much for this splendid opportunity to serve the Consortium in yet another manner. I pledge to honourably serve the inhabitants of the Rim Worlds with my utmost abilities. I shall forever do my best to preserve the history and culture of the region while plunging ahead in to the prosperity of the future!”
Dronos steps down from the podium and shakes hands with Minister Tylger as the image fades back to Anacia Chalcedon in the studio.
“We will return with more top stories after these messages!”
The studio fades out as a brief commercial break starts…

 | | Battle Sim Online
|
| After talking to Tova, I thought I'd let you all know what is up with the Battle Sim. I have three files that run every minute, recharge shields, recharge weapons, and travel. The problem is that they take more than a minute to run if there are several games, so when one starts, another version of the same file opens whilst that file is already open, so after a few hours, there are several hundred files open, eventually crashing the server.
So I had each file create a temp file when it runs, when it is done it deletes the temp file. If another version is started whilst a temp file is open, it will give an error and not run. This is when the BSim shuts down. Now, I cannot run those files every minute, or every two minutes. So it would be every five, which makes traveling less realistic. So now I have created one master file which is included in the BSim main file, the file you access every time you access any file on the BSim. This means that every user now opens that file to regenerate shields and weapons, and calculate travel.
This will no doubt result in a higher data use and transfer on the server, however when a user requests a file the CPU allows more resources than it does on CronJobs (Automatically run files), it might work.
I have allowed Tova to create a small game (KJJ Tester) and pick a small number of people to test it. I believe this should work as long as games and numbers are limited, and games are deleted when done. So go on over and spam tova to get on board the beta tester team.
Enjoy. |

 | | A change in the air
|
| Every now and then we need to make the effort to revitalise ourselves to increase our motivation, generate fresh thinking and make progress. It is no different with institutions, as it is individuals that are the building blocks of such organisations. His Majesty’s Government has long worked towards the success and prosperity of the Consortium by always willing to be innovative, progressive and considerate of the future.
In an effort ensure the future progress and longevity of the Consortium the Government is set to undergo a major reshuffle and reorganisation of responsibilities. First of all it should be noted that, while unannounced, the Government has been seeking to place further emphasis on the Departments that make up the various ministries His Majesty has put in place. To accomplish this Ministers are allowed to delegate their responsibilities over an entire Department to an experienced and capable civil servant. These Departmental Heads then hold a mandate to operate their section of the Government as they see fit under the supervision of the Minister in charge.
A number of changes are set to occur in the Royal Council in the coming days. First of all, Minister Lord Zayth Kadrim has decided to step down from the mantle of Intelligence due to pressing commitments in the redevelopment of the Sion system. Minister of External Affairs, Ariath Windcloud, steps in to replace him, bringing diplomatic know-how to the lands of Mordorshadow. Lord Kadrim will for the time being remain as Deputy Minister of Intelligence in order to assist Minister Windcloud’s transition to his new role.
With the departure of our longest serving and most successful Minister of External Affairs comes the need to find a new face to head up our public image. His Majesty has nominated his old friend and the current President of Endara Arms, Lord Sirius Threestars, to take up the reins of our diplomatic efforts by heading the Ministry of External Affairs.
Next, Minister Carrie Jade has now for a second occasion stepped in to manage the Consortium’s finance in a time of need, acting on behalf of the wishes of the Crown managing the treasury, as well as the Consortium by serving on the Royal Council. With her expanding roles managing the RHAF’s new Fighter Command as well as the highly circulated Hapan Star it has become apparent that she is now overstretched and as such she has decided to step down from this post. In her place the Royal Council has elected Commissioner Alley Trepe from the Ministry of Industry to tackle the demands that the King wishes to place on this portfolio, making her the new Minister of Finance.
Finally for a long time now the Royal Council has played with the idea of reinstating the Ministry of the Interior to handle matters of security, law, justice and governance once more. It has been decided to rebrand the Ministry of Culture as the Department of Culture in the Ministry of the Interior, with Lord Alex Tylger becoming the new Minister of the Interior.
More changes can be expected in the months to come as the Ministers settle into their new responsibilities and mandates as well as while the Government seeks to accommodate new needs of the Consortium. For now we should congratulate the new (and old) Ministers on their new stations and express our deepest gratitude for the efforts of those whose extended responsibilities have required they stand aside for the immediate future. |

 | | New Archon Appointed
|
| As the evening bulletin of the HNN begins, Anacia Chalcedon appears on your holoscreen to present the opening story…
“I’m here in our studio on Hapes Prime just outside the grounds of the Royal Hapan Palace where a new Archon is being appointed. We’ll now go live to the ceremony being held in the courtyard outside”
The scene cuts to King Jessy James speaking at the podium in front of an array of guests and officials, surrounded by the splendour of the palace’s gardens.
“…and to this end we will endeavour to reinvigorate development in the Interior Region by appointing one of our most promising civil servants, Kell Archis, to the post of Archon.
“Mr. Archis, would you please step forth?”
The Bothan climbs from his chair at the end of the podium and stands alongside King James, who turns to face the man.
“Kell Archis, do you swear to serve the Crown, the Consortium and its people to your utmost capacity as Archon of this region?”
“Yes, that is my solemn vow, Your Highness”
Jessy pins the symbolic badges of the Archonate onto Kell’s clothing. After the Bothan bows he shakes his hand in encouragement for the task ahead.
“Now, I believe Lord Lant has another presentation to make,” King James finishes. The Sullustan gets up and moves to the dais as the King and Bothan retake their seats.
“From when he joined the Government only a matter of months ago, your new Archon has been instrumental in rebuilding the His Majesty’s Civil Service into a functional institution that now makes a greater contribution to the Consortium than it ever did before.
“In honour of his accomplishments, the Royal Council has decided to promote him to the rank of Secretary.” Gane stops talking and walks over to Kell. As the Bothan gets to his feet, Gane replaces his Undersecretary insignia with that of a Secretary and King James moves to the microphone once again.
“Would you all please congratulate the Archon on his new position and rank?” and suggestively begins clapping.
As the applause dies, the live footage cuts out and returns to the HNN studio.
“Well, you saw it here first on the Hapan News Network, Kell Archis is the new Archon of the Interior Region. This is Anacia Chalcedon signing off on Kiduin.” |

 | | Lord Regent Zell Jaak Retires
|
|
The spinning logo of the HNN is soon followed by Anacia Chalcedon’s bright smile, filling out your holo-projector and announcing the evening’s news. Dressed in flashing golden colours, her hair curled ever so delicately, appealing to the eye. Her smile flashes your way as she begins listing the most recent events of nearby faction, barely concerning your interest or the Hapes Consortium. But as she sorts her papers and continues, the background changes and the head-titles read out to you catch your eye.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, it saddens even me to bring you the news of our Lord Regent Zell Jaak’s official retirement,” she starts. “A gifted man, contributed to the Consortium like no other but the King, he was a jewel amongst us, appreciated and respected through the entire Cluster. However, life catches up with all of us and so it has even caught up with this special man.” While she talks the background behind her changes into the scenery of a royal looking banquet, lit up with golden candles and jewels across the walls to emphasise the glamour of the event. “Lord Jaak started off as an outstanding law student, very soon climbing his way upward and leaving his mark in history with the outstanding work he achieved for the wellbeing of this Cluster. His first retirement took place some 14 months ago, but after a vacation that seemingly pushed him onward once more, he returned and was quickly promoted to the most outstanding position any Hapan could imagine, he became our Lord Regent and the right hand of our beloved King.”
She continued thus, listing farther events in his life and achievements that very few people in this consortium could match or live up to. Pressing family matters and years of hard work have resulted in the desire to step aside for another man, younger than him, to take over where he had stopped and perhaps continue his good work. Nothing can last forever, no creature can live for an eternity and so no man can keep up that amount of work on a continuous base. With that, Lord Regent Zell Jaak has announced his most official retirement from the Hapes Consortium.
“The Hapan Star will bring you more news on tonight’s festivities taking place in honour of the resigning lord,” Anacia continues, nodding finally as she moves aside. “Miss Jade, what is the mood of this grand banquet tonight? How are the people reacting to this announcement?”
The view switches over then, now displaying the background that had filled out the wall behind Anacia so far. The cameras take in the beautiful setting of a grand feast, dozens of official and high-ranked Hapans standing gathered into a crowd, some deep in conversation, others standing absent-mindedly with their drinks in hand. Yet another bright smile flashes your way as the Chief Editor of the Hapan Star, Carrie Jade, steps into view, a microphone plugged into the collar of her blouse. She holds a hand to her left ear, pausing as the message is transmitted with the slightest delay.
“Yes, the mood is difficult to describe, Anacia,” she begins, dropping her arms to her side before folding them behind her back then. “Some officials are outraged, they have come to rely on a man like Lord Jaak with the years, and others are saddened into silence. It is definitely a very sweeping event, not many are ready to let go of him yet, but the people are ready to give him a moving goodbye. The atmosphere is incredible, the speeches held, the words that have been said and the gifts that have been passed to this Lord – and the gifts he has given to close friends – it all sums up to a very moving, emotional event. You cannot help but get carried away with it all.”
“Yes, well that is quite understandable,” Anacia comments as she merges back into view. “This must affect the King above all people though, can you tell us anything about his feelings this evening?”
“Indeed I can,” the chief editor replies with a solemn nod. The picture zooms up to her again and she steps aside, the King suddenly coming into view. He stands beside her, a fair bit taller than her and straightened out with pride, the gold of his hair glowing with the candlelight about him. Dressed in rather typically formal wear, he looks just as majestic as he would do any other day. “Your Highness,” Miss Jade says, inclining her head with respect. She repeats Anacia’s transmitted question to him, he nods with understanding and approval as he slowly begins.
“I must say, I have known the man for many, many years now and I never thought for once that he would retire before me. I will truly miss him. His work and dedication is something we have all benefited from over the years of his service.”
“Has Lord Jaak given any hints as to what he will be doing in his upcoming pension?” the blonde Hapan asks, tilting her head as she respectfully awaits the King’s reply.
“Well, I do believe he will be enjoying a quiet life on Abaem with family and friends. He has mentioned he will try to keep his nose out of politics, at least for a while.”
Nodding slowly, Miss Jade then asks, “Your Majesty; is there anything else you would like to add?”
“Zell,” he says, turning his blue eyes directly into the camera, “we will miss you. Thank you for everything and please, don’t be a stranger!”
Carrie Jade curtsies to the King before he draws away once more, then she turns back to the camera and within focus. “I have but one more fellow Hapan here who is willing to speak a few final words to our trusted friend, Lord Jaak. Deputy Minister Vetra Kurov, welcome and thank you for your contribution to this report. Could you kindly tell us, what do you think Lord Regent Jaak has brought to the Consortium over his career?”
“Thanks for the difficult question first-up,” he says, bringing a wry smile to the reporter’s lips. “I believe that Lord Regent Jaak has been a man of incredible integrity. His incredible drive and passion for the work he has done on behalf of the Consortium has been truly amazing, he has overseen and driven some of the largest and most important projects over the years and I think he will be very hard act to live up to.”
“And how are you feeling tonight, Archon Kurov? What emotions does this rather sad event stir within you?”
“Zell’s retirement is a huge loss to the Consortium, his dedication and work have been without equal, and as a friend and colleague he will be truly missed.”
“Thank you, Vetra,” Miss Jade smiles, turning back into the camera with her hands behind her back once more. She takes a breath and continues, adding final lines to tonight’s transmission. “This lord was like a star to very many people, and with that, his retirement almost matches the death of a star. But one must think, stars do not fade out but they explode in an amazing firework of colours and mesmerising patterns. Zell, your deeds will not go unheard, or unseen. You will always be missed by the people of the Consortium, just as you will always be loved by them.”
