The Hapan News Network

The brief commercial break is over and the channel resumes its normal broadcasting. A gold version of the HNN logo appears on the screen, sparkling brightly before minimising to the upper right corner as the Lorell studio of the network appears. Xana Valqar smiles in greeting before she welcomes the viewers.

"Greetings, sentients of the Consortium and welcome to the HNN Morning News. It is 08:00 in Avalon, 26:00 in Chume’Dan, 14:00 in Xalia and 03:00 in Jamestown. Here is the latest from around the Hapes Cluster.

The Hapan transit authorities report that massive ion storms in the Keltros Expanse make travel along the Rel’amma hyperlane hazardous this morning and rather recommend the Irrea lane via the Knot Holes when travelling from Alsace to Lorell. As a result, some delays are to be expected, both in the Knot Holes and within the Lorellon Conduit as traffic is diverted."

Lorell Hall

The image cuts, showing the Lorell Hall complex in the hills above the Hapan capital city, Chume’Dan. A female reporter stands in the courtyard of the building, smiling at the camera.

"Last week the former Minister of Finance, Carrie Jade, announced her return to the world of politics in the Hapes Consortium following a six month long leave of absence. In her time away, her old position has been filled by the talented Aviana Badara. Following discussions within the chambers of the Royal Council, the Ministry of Culture extended an invitation to Jade to take up the job of Deputy Minister. Having accepted Lord Alexander Tylger's offer, Deputy Minister Jade will be in charge of public entertainment and large scale recreation within the Hapes Cluster. Already we have seen a much welcome return of the Hapan Star, a clear sign that the Deputy Minister is eagerly at work already."

The reporter turns as Deputy Minister Jade arrives in the courtyard accompanied by Lord Alexander Tylger. Jade, dressed in an appropriate Royal Court uniform approaches the reporter and smiles.

"Deputy Minister Jade, how does it feel to be back in Lorell Hall?"
"It's such a fantastic feeling to be back home again. However I think I needed a long break away to realise just how much this place, the work, everything, means to me. Working on the Hapan Star again is a wonderful feeling and I cannot wait to get started on my new position, it's going to be amazing. I see grand times before us all!"
"Lord Tylger, what kind of plans do you have for the Ministry of Culture in the time ahead?"
"There are many upcoming anniversaries that will likely involve both the men and women of the Royal Hapan Armed Forces, as well as those in the Civil Service. We want to put emphasis on creating public events that raise morale within the Hapes Cluster. The happiness of the population has always been a priority for this ministry, and therefore I welcome the return of Jade as her work on the Hapan Star always brought happiness to millions around the cluster. She has always been passionate about the Consortium, its culture and history, and I could not have asked for a better companion in the work that lies ahead."

As the two politicians acknowledge the thanks of the reporter, she turns back to the camera and smiles.

"There you have it. The first in a series of cultural events is a masquerade on Vergill. For more information on this, pick up the latest edition of the Hapan Star. This was Lizy Han'jic reporting on the Ministry of Culture. We now go to our economics expert inside Lorell Hall's financial wing."

Lorell Hall

The image cuts to another reporter standing outside the office of the Minister of Finance inside the Lorell Hall complex.

"Thank you, Lizy. The hawks of the Ministry of Culture are not the only ones passionate about the Consortium. Since the completion of the Gormoth Project, we have seen a massive economic growth within the Hapes Consortium, with state coffers filled to the brim. Minister of Finance Aviana Badara has worked tirelessly since her appointment and has been spending her days managing the flow of billions of credits to various projects, primarily the expansion of the nationalised corporations, the Royal Hapan Armed Forces and also the general economy.

But lately the Minister has been leading the cry in the Royal Council for higher wages , calling for an overall raising of wage levels within all departments directly tied to the Hapan government. The goal is to draw more people to a life of service, be it within the Royal Hapan Armed Forces, the Civil Service or within a nationalised corporation. Minister Badara has also encouraged the Royal Council to raise the wages as part of a plan to give something back to those that have already served faithfully and assisted in making this era of progress become a reality. Experts say the proposed wages are well within the Consortium's expense budget, particularly with the projected income of the Haradan colony, making up only a tiny percentage of the government's monthly income."

Minister Aviana Badara exits her office dressed in a pristine Royal Council uniform and greets the reporter with a friendly smile.

"Minister, thank for you taking the time to talk to us. What can you tell us about the new wage scale?"
"You are most welcome. I worked hard to develop a system that was fair and uniform. One of the main goals was to unify the wage structure so that it is easy to understand and offers avenues for more diversity in the choices new personnel can make career wise. Additionally it was to bring the wages of Hapans into congruence with its new level of income and ensure that presently serving personnel are satisfied with their current careers."
"Who can be credited with helping put this new system in place?"
"The Deputy Minister of Defence, Lord Tyrridon, provided valuable input, along with Chief Justice Abriel. The Minister of Defence, Mors Baynos, and Prime Minister Lant have also been of great assistance during the debate. While the general wage scale has been approved by His Majesty, we are still working on the details relating to bonuses such as those typically rewarded for holding additional positions of importance."
"When will Hapans see the new wage scale implemented?"
"Unless complications arise in the coming two weeks, it will be implemented before wages are paid next month."
"Thank you for your time, Minister."

The reporter turns back to the camera and a button flashes on the bottom of your screen, indicated a file has been attached to the broadcast.

"By pressing the link on your datapad, you can now access the new wage scale. That is all the political news this morning. HNN will now give you the latest from the Royal Hapan Armed Forces."

Royal Hapan Armed Forces

The planet Maires in the Hapan system is shown on the screen before cutting to images of troops from the Royal Hapan Army clad in their finest dress uniforms standing in formation in front of a large podium in Fort Victoria. Many high ranking figures are seated on the podium, including the King himself, Minister Mors Baynos and Deputy Minister Lord Tyrridon. King James is seen replacing Toshikhan's old rank insignia with a new one, featuring a single golden star. Valqar's voice can be heard as the clip plays.

"This was the scene of Tovakinpi Toshikhan's official promotion to Brigadier last week. Amidst tight security provided by Maires local garrison and the Phoenix Guard, His Majesty King James visited the headquarters of the Royal Hapan Army in Fort Victoria. As is tradition, the King is the only one who can promote anyone to a rank in the admiralty or general officers range. Following seven months of leading the Royal Hapan Army following the transfer of now Deputy Minister Lord Tyrridon, His Majesty has finally seen fit to promote Toshikhan.

The young officer has had to fill enormous shoes left by his predecessors, many of which never rose above the rank of Colonel. But Toshikhan has proved his worth, working tirelessly to represent the interests of the Consortium's ground forces after the abolishment of the Grand Council and reinstatement of the Ministry of Defence. In an era of progress and expansion, the Royal Hapan Army has not stood still, but rather expanded. In addition to expanding security measures on Hapan worlds, the armed forces have been involved in the Haradan Project as it was similarly involved in the Gormoth Project. Toshikhan's was recently appointed manager of the project in order to better co-ordinate the troops involved and also because of his experience with managing a team that helped build Gormoth.

The newly promoted Brigadier, a man of few formal words, was quoted saying "I am thankful for His Majesty's continued faith in my leadership abilities and shall work tirelessly on all ongoing projects, both within the Royal Hapan Army itself and with Haradan."

Olanji Corporation

The scene changes once again, showing a orange and green nebulae surrounding the bright star of Charuzad. The twin planets Olanji and Charubah come in to sight along the massive shipyard arrays that orbit the two worlds. As always the system is shown to be under tight lock with hundreds of craft from Olanji's security force, as well as the Royal Hapan Navy, patrolling the area. The voice of a different reporter speaking with Charubahan accent is heard as the camera pans over the shipyards, showing dozens of mighty battle ships under construction.

"As everyone in the Hapes Cluster knows, the residents of the Charu system have always come up with the most innovative ship designs and the former dominion of House Olanji has always been home to the Consortium's most advance construction facilities. Since the expansion of the Olanji Corporation's shipyards last year, the workers of the company has continuously worked overtime to meet the needs of the Royal Hapan Navy for more ships.

Today the Olanji Corporation saw the much anticipated launching of three Battle Dragons here at the Charu shipyard complex. While completed not too long ago, the ships underwent inspection by the Royal Hapan Navy's leadership before being launched and commissioned for duty today. The three ships, named HRS Nautilus, HRS Majestic and HRS Jaakster, are the first in a new wave of Battle Dragons that will enter service in the Consortium's naval forces in the coming months.

Present at the scene of the launching were many high ranking members of the Ministry of Defence, as well as the Royal Hapan Navy. The CEO of the Olanji Corporation, Lord Dortan Amethius, oversaw the launching with much enthusiasm and was quoted saying "The completion of these Battle Dragons is a culmination of many hundreds of hours of effort by dedicated Olanji workers that has seen us enter into the next phase of our efforts to revive the glory that this company once held. In the recent past we have overseen the production of hundreds if not thousands of fighters for the Royal Hapan Navy but now the focus turns to providing the Hapes Consortium with the firepower it requires to keep our borders secure. These ships are just the beginning ladies and gentlemen, I expect you will be seeing many more capital ships in Hapan space courtesy of Olanji's shipyards in the future..."

Vice Admiral Lord Locke Firecam, the commander of the Royal Hapan Navy, was also present for the commissioning of the vessels and gave the following comment: "I'd like to offer my thanks along with the gratitude along with the rest of the Royal Hapan Navy for the outstanding work from Olanji and join in the celebration of the commissioning of our first new capital ships. With the growing number of officers joining our ranks, the new vessels are a needed and welcome sight. Minister Baynos and myself have already made the necessary arrangements and the new ships will be sent off to the fleets within the next few days. I would like to personally thank Lord Amethius for working with my staff to ensure that the Navy's ship orders were processed quickly and efficiently. We look forward to many new ship launches in the future."

Those were all the headlines this morning. We will return with weather forecast for all major capital cities after these advertisements...
