Erosion Repaired, Beaches Restored

The beautiful tropical beaches lining portions of the Lorell coastline are renowned throughout several sectors as one of the galaxy’s finest luxury vacation destinations. This well-deserved reputation is not just due to the area’s inherent natural beauty, however—it is also thanks to the tender, expert care that the Hapan government pays to its environment.

In a continue struggle with the changing whims of Nature, nearly all beachfront resorts eventually run into problems of erosion eating away at their beaches, and on Lorell it is no different. But while resorts on other planets might just pack up and leave when faced with such a problem, the environmentally-conscious Hapans realize that all is not lost.

The five-star Hapanii Bay Resort complex is just the latest to have overcome such a dilemma. Says spokesman Jahl Reinberg, “We have such a beautiful and unique location here that we simply couldn’t afford to lose it. So we called in several experts in tidal currents and the like, realizing that we would have to work with the forces of Nature, not against them. We didn’t just dredge up a bunch of sand from somewhere else and dump it on our beach—we actually discovered that by helping build up an offshore coral reef a bit, we could gently redirect some key tidal currents and bring more sand our way. Everybody wins—more coral reef habitat for the fish, and more magnificent white sand for our guests.”

Other resorts in the area have similarly adjusted to the fickle ocean currents, with some even going so far as to welcome the eroding sands, simply incorporating the encroaching ocean into their buildings—some are either cantilevered or suspended by repulsors over the cresting waves themselves, while others merely strengthened their bases and allowed the waves to ebb and flow around them. The result is absolutely spectacular, and about as “beach-front” as one can possibly get. Such incidents serve as further reminders of why these one-of-a-kind resorts are some of the best in the galaxy, smoothly integrating modern comforts into a truly breath-taking natural setting.
